James McNeil Scholarship of Monash University in Australia

Applications for the 2026 James McNeil Scholarships are now open.

The Sir James McNeill Postgraduate Research Scholarship (SJMN) is funded by a private trust and was established in memory of the late Sir James McNeill, who had a long association with Monash University.

This prestigious scholarship is available for research that is both environmentally responsible and socially beneficial and helps support a graduate research student with living costs whilst studying at Monash.

To be considered for the Monash University James McNeil Scholarship, you must:

You must be one of the following:

• An Australian citizen

• A New Zealand citizen

• Australian permanent resident

• Australian humanitarian visa holder

• An International student

You must meet the following criteria:

• have submitted a scholarship application in the year the scholarship is offered;

• be undertaking research that is both environmentally responsible and socially beneficial;

• meet Monash’s competitive scholarship selection process requirements; and

• meet Monash English language proficiency requirements.

The Monash University James McNeil Scholarship provides:

• a living allowance ($53,608 p.a (2025 rate));

• a research allowance; and

• a relocation allowance, if eligible.
